Maxillofacial Surgeon Jobs in Albany, NY
A Maxillofacial Surgeon specializes in treating a myriad of diseases, injuries, and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. They are a pivotal part of the dental industry, managing complex conditions such as facial pain, oral cancer, dental implants, facial disproportion, salivary gland disease, and numerous other oral health conditions. They also play a significant role in performing reconstructive and cosmetic surgery to improve function and appearance, often working closely with other dental and medical specialties.
A Maxillofacial Surgeon should possess exceptional skills in diagnosis and surgical abilities, along with an in-depth understanding of both oral and general health issues. They must also have excellent hand-eye coordination and the ability to work under pressure. In terms of certification, they require a degree in dentistry, followed by further specialized surgical training, and typically certification from a governing body such as the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Prior to becoming a Maxillofacial Surgeon, an individual may have roles such as General Dentist, Resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or a Fellowship in a related specialty.
