Dental Hygienist Jobs in Utah
A Dental Hygienist plays a pivotal role in the dental industry. They are primarily responsible for cleaning patients' teeth, examining patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and providing other preventive dental care. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health. They often work closely with dentists and dental assistants to provide comprehensive oral care. Important skills for a Dental Hygienist include dexterity, interpersonal skills, physical stamina, and attention to detail. They should also have the ability to use specialized dental software and tools.
Before becoming a Dental Hygienist, one could have roles such as Dental Assistant and Dental Laboratory Technician. These roles provide a foundational understanding of dental care and the operation of a dental office. Dental Hygienists are required to have an associate degree in dental hygiene. Every state in the U.S. also requires dental hygienists to be licensed; requirements vary by state but usually involve completing an accredited dental hygiene program, passing written and clinical examinations, and completing a period of supervised clinical practice. Some Dental Hygienists may also choose to pursue a bachelor's or master's degree in dental hygiene, which can offer opportunities for roles in research, teaching, or corporate sales.
