Dental Hygienist

Key Responsibilities:
The Dental Hygienist will help to treat patients and promote good oral health practices and will conduct initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth (e.g. removing plaque) and advising patients on oral health and preventative care. S/he will also assist the dentist(s) to decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies.
Must be reliable and able to build trust with patients of all ages and have deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules and a good eye for oral diseases and anomalies. You should also have a steady hand and great bedside manner.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Perform routine dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling and root planing, and apply preventive materials such as sealants and fluoride.
- Conduct oral cancer screenings and periodontal evaluations.
- Take and interpret dental X-rays as required.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and the importance of oral health as it relates to overall wellness.
- Review and update patient medical histories and document all procedures in the electronic dental record
(e.g., Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft).
- Assist in developing individual care plans based on the dentist's diagnosis and patient risk factors.
