Dental Assistant Faculty Practice provides assistance to patients, faculty and staff in the Dental Schools Faculty Practice Clinic and provides instruction to patients in accordance with the Clinic Operations Manual and standards of care in Dentistry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide clinical dental assistance to dentists before, during and after treatment of patients including dental emergencies.
Assist faculty with compliance to record keeping protocols related to the treatment of patients.
Maintain and monitor accepted practices and care of dental equipment, instruments and supplies per MUSOD standards and regulatory group requirements.
Distribute, assist and monitor instrument and equipment management and case cart system.
Coordinate the repair and maintenance of dental equipment.
Provide clerical functions of a dental office including answering phones, scheduling appointments and handling patient records and other computer related duties.
Attend in-service programs, dental assistant meetings and other various committee meetings as required.
Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High School education plus one year of dental assistant experience is required including knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy; regulator agency requirements; 4-handed dentistry; instrumentation; impression materials and cements; x-ray technology and procedures; sterilization procedures; patient management techniques; and Health-Care Provider CPR .
Dexterity, and ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing and walking.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Basic computer skills
Excellent customer service skills, listening skills, discretion and flexibility
Ability to work and communicate with people from a diverse population
Ability to work independently with little supervision and frequent interruptions in an environment that can be fast-paced.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Preference will be given to applicants with at least three years of dental assisting experience.
Previous experience working in an academic setting and knowledge of Marquette University School of Dentistry policy and procedures helpful.
