Responsibilities

  • Check in patients promptly and notify providers as soon as patients arrive.
  • Monitor and update patient charts, ensuring all information is accurate and current.
  • Enter date of visit, department, and provider name on the daily log sheet for each patient.
  • Add appropriate sheets and documentation to the comprehensive medical record, including treatment plans, periodontal charts, informed consent forms, referral forms, and contracts for complex treatment in the dental section of the record.
  • Record patient appointment data on a daily basis to support accurate scheduling and reporting.
  • Maintain the dental laboratory in a clean, organized, and fully stocked condition.
  • Lay out and prepare instruments and materials prior to each patient visit to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Monitor lab cases, including checking in lab cases, pouring impressions where indicated, storing cases properly, and sending out lab cases as needed.
  • Complete and maintain lab log sheets accurately for all lab-related activities.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients, ensuring they feel respected and informed throughout their visit.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and administrative team members to support coordinated patient care.
  • Use electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office applications to document, track, and manage patient and lab information.

Essential Skills

  • Completion of a Dental Assistant program or equivalent experience working as a dental assistant.
  • At least 6 months of dental assistant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with dental assisting, including chairside support and patient care.
  • Ability to perform accurate charting and maintain comprehensive medical and dental records.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), with ECW/Eclinical Works experience considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service ability and a patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to organize and maintain dental laboratory operations, instruments, and lab cases.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Dental Assistant certification preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience working in a community health or multi-provider setting is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling charts, lab cases, and documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with dental providers and other clinical staff.
  • Comfort using ECW/Eclinical Works or similar EMR systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Patchogue, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $23.50/hr.
