Description

The University of New England College of Dental Medicine (UNE CDM) invites applications for Chair of the Department of Diagnostic, Surgical, and Integrated Sciences. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month clinical track faculty appointment at the Associate Clinical Professor/Clinical Professor rank with an administrative appointment as the Department Chair.

The Department of Diagnostic, Surgical, and Integrated Sciences is one of four departments in the College of Dental Medicine and includes the disciplines of biomedical sciences, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial radiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral medicine, orofacial pain, and periodontics. Reporting to the Dean, the Chair is the administrative leader for this diverse department.

Responsibilities

The Chair of the Department of Diagnostic, Surgical, and Integrated Sciences will participate in teaching of predoctoral students in addition to the administrative responsibilities outlined below.

Primary responsibilities include:

Providing strong leadership in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service to the department, and curriculum content

Collaborating with collegiate leadership and other departments

Developing and mentoring faculty

Cultivating an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faulty, and professional staff

Other responsibilities include:

Operations

General oversight of the Department administrative, instructional, and fiscal functions

Manage faculty scheduling/coverage for patient care, simulation clinic, courses, advanced standing track, IPE and IPP activities, and student research activities

Ensure compliance with University/College policy and procedures

Curricular/Instruction

Ensure high-quality teaching that is integrated, innovative, evidence-based, and compliant with CODA accreditation standards and UNE CDM competency statements

Manage curricular content within the disciplines of the Department and ensure content is complete, current, properly sequenced, delivered in a fashion the supports student success, and incorporates emerging technologies

Assist with outcomes assessment

Human Resources

Recruit, interview, and onboard new faculty members

Coach, mentor, and develop faculty for academic growth, scholarly pursuits, and promotion

Conduct teaching reviews of faculty members in Department

Participate in the annual review of faculty, staff, and administrators as appropriate; institutes corrective actions when required

Leadership

Promote and foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and community

Support and advance the mission of the College

Serve as a visionary leader of the Department

Support strategic initiatives

Promote the College

Participate in College activities and events

Supervision Exercised

Direct supervision of full-time, half-time, and adjunct faculty within the department.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must possess a D.D.S./D.M.D. degree, or international equivalent and have successfully completed the NBDE Parts I & II or the INBDE and a regional licensure examination (e.g. ADEX).Specialists must have completed a CODA-accredited graduate program and be eligible for or Board Certified. The candidate must be eligible for and have active Maine Board of Dental Practice licensure (full) by the position start date.

Candidates must have a passion for diagnostic, surgical, and integrated sciences and for dental education. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience and a strong record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with the rank of Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced experience in one of the department disciplines. Previous experience with program management and demonstrated success in fostering collaborative teams is desirable.

Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interviews of qualified candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
