Job Title: Dental Assistant-Senior Department: Dentistry | Sterilization The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Lead Dispensing Assistant to join the patient care team in Clinic Administration to support the Dental Clinics. The College's Sterilization Unit in Clinic Administration is an important function in the health care delivery system. The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the third largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into eight divisions or academic units. All major ADA-recognized dental specialties are represented. Leads the Dispensing unit; leads the daily operations of two dispensaries, receives, inspects, and prepares instruments and supplies for pick-up by central sterilization, ensures a clean and safe work environment; ensures that instruments, supplies and equipment are available for distribution for patient care and clinical courses; monitors compliance with infection control policies and procedures and recordkeeping; develops and maintains work schedules; stocks clinic floors, back labs, supply room and dispensaries. Submits order requests to Materials & Supply Manager, trains staff regarding proper procedures and protocols. Addresses and resolves employee, student and faculty concerns, walks through clinic to ensure cleanliness and collect unused supplies. Retrieves supply orders and put them away. Requests maintenance repairs with internal and external vendors for clinics, back labs and side rooms. Coordinates meetings with other clinics that utilize the sterilization/dispensing services in an effort to enhance operations. Prepares supplies for college events, distributes tardy slips in regard to A*STAR, attends/organizes and coordinates meetings. Updates department signage as needed. Hires and trains employees. Completes written and verbal coaching sessions and performance evaluations, meets with course instructors to clarify needs, oversees all licensing exam supplies, organizes all work areas within the department. Prepares reports as needed, assists with student orientations. May work nights and/or weekends as needed for college events. Schedule Mon-Fri 7:30am-4:30pm Position Requirements Candidate must be able to: work nights and/or weekends as needed for college events; frequent lifting/pulling/pushing up to 50lbs; frequent bending/twisting/turning/reaching below knees and above shoulders; and involves frequent standing/sitting/walking. Lead needs to have use of both hands, as well as dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, equipment and materials. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex. Additional Information: Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Associates Degree in health care or related field preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 3 or more years of full time chair side experience or 6 years or more of part time chair side experience preferred. Current CPR license; current radiology license; completion of an accredited dental assistant training program; 6 months of supervisory experience is required with at least 1 year in a medical or dental healthcare setting; knowledge of infection control procedures; knowledge of sterilization procedures; knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA; and, knowledge of dental nomenclature, products and instruments; experience using a personal computer and Microsoft Office to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex; experience in customer service setting. Desired Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to consistently contribute to and work within a fast-paced team environment.
