Position Summary: The Dental Receptionist is accountable directly to the Dental Practice Manager. This is a full-time position, based out of our Conway Health and Resource Center in SW, DC.
This position requires availability Monday through Friday between 10am - 7pm, with flexibility for an occasional Saturday rotation.
Salary: The salary range for this position is $21.63 - $24.03 per hour and the offer amount is determined by the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience. Indeed provides their own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH's range.
Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures smooth patient flow at the front desk by checking patients in, ensuring all forms are completed, collecting payments, collecting charts in a timely manner and ensuring patients have a positive check-in and check-out experience when visiting or calling COH.
- Answers and screens all telephone calls appropriately and independently, creates telephone encounters and forwards them to the appropriate personnel.
- Works with the Dental Director on maintaining and implementing appropriate scheduling procedures for the dental clinic.
- Marks appointment statuses appropriately dependent on clinic flow and calls patients daily to confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointments;
- Registers patients in eCW and obtains required documentation;
- Coordinates patient flow ensuring that patients are not delayed, letting staff know a patient has arrived, providing information if patients are late, etc..
- Maintains knowledge of insurance benefits, including insurance eligibility verification and determines any charges/copayments. Completes insurance verification between 1 to 2 business days prior to each visit and records in chart for reference.
- Complies with COH policies and state and federal regulations governing confidential information, including HIPAA.
- Effectively manages any customer service problems with patients on non-clinical issues, troubleshoots the problem and tries to determines the most appropriate solution.
- Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED;
- Experience working in a dental practice for at least one year preferred.
- Experience with dental/medical practice software preferred.
- Ability to travel to work at other sites as needed required.
- Ability to work a Saturday rotation (meaning if you work Saturday then you can get a day during the week off).
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Internet) required.
- eClinical Works and Open Dental knowledge preferred.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication;
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Medical or Dental Receptionist.

About Us:
Community of Hope is a mission-driven, innovative, and rapidly growing nonprofit. For 45 years, we have provided healthcare, housing, and community support services to make Washington, DC more equitable. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we provide medical, dental, emotional wellness, and care coordination services for the whole family at three locations in DC.
