SUMMARY:
As an Oral Surgery Surgical Tech, you are crucial in the efficiency and overall success of operations. Under supervision of Oral Surgeon or manager, functions as an Oral Surgery assistant. Can perform additional tasks as is allowed under NYS law for Licensed Dental Assistants
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Discuss pre-op/post-op instructions with patient.
Preparing patient for oral surgery procedures reviewing med history. Monitor patient vitals during sedation procedure.
Assisting oral surgeon by maintaining patient airway.
Post op removal of patient IV
Prepares patient for Dentist by seating and draping the patient then adjusting the chair to a convenient angle.
Transfer instruments and perform 4 handed dentistry for the general dental assistant.
Mixes filling compounds using standard practice or Dentist preference.
Places and positions suction tubes in patients mouth as directed by Dentist .
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed a military surgical technology program -OR-
Grand-Fathering Clause: Provides evidence he or she was employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 12/31/10 12/31/14. -OR-
Graduated from a Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)- or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)- accredited program with a Surgical Technology major AND holds and maintains Certified Surgical Technologist certification from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)within 12 months of graduation.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
Completed a military surgical technology program

Certified Surgical Technologist certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTS) and degree in Surgical Technology required
