INTRODUCTION

The Dental Director will provide clinical oversight of dental services and manage all functions of the dental program. Will serve as the senior dentist providing leadership, quality care and vision while managing a productive multi-chair facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the development and coordination of all dental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for managerial oversight to the dental service programs through planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing dental service activities and strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible to exercise oversight for dental contract health services in accordance with NMPH policies, authorize, obligate and justify the use of NMPH dental care funds as needed.
  • Ensure all dental activities are performed in accordance with applicable license, regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Ensure that the quality of patient care services is monitored and evaluated and appropriate corrective actions are taken based on findings. Ensures integration of patient education into all phases of treatment.
  • Monitor and evaluate all dental programs and/or services to ensure achievement of system-wide, uniform standards of dental clinical practice, quality assurance/management programs, practice guidelines and protocols and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Review all contracts with other dental providers and offer professional recommendations to the Executive Director. Shall attend Nimiipuu Health Board meetings and/or provide board reports as requested. Required to submit monthly reports to supervisor.
  • Required to adhere to the Pain Management Policies and attend committee meetings.
  • Oversee the evaluation of products to appropriately identify and standardize (to the maximum extent possible) equipment and supplies of both facilities.
  • Works closely with Tribal programs and other community programs to identify, address and meet community dental needs. Educate and expand access of primary dental services, especially for the uninsured and low-income populations, and to improve oral health in the community.
  • Directly supervise Lapwai dental staff, as well as providers in both Lapwai and Kamiah clinics.
  • Serve as a member of the management team, assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of all departmental treatment and prevention services in accordance with NMPH policies.
  • Prepare an annual department budget and allocate resources to carry out programs and activities of the dental department.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities contained in the Dental job description. Provider direct dental services in the Lapwai and Kamiah clinics.
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with applicable laws, safety codes, employee handbook, Vehicle Use Maintenance Manual, Finance Manual and department policies and procedures.
  • Must have a positive work history; responsible for maintaining a consistent and regular attendance record.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry, with five years of experience as a practicing Dentist, or three years in senior level/director position with supervisor experience. Requires current non-restrictive DEA number and active licensure; State of Idaho license is preferred. Must obtain Idaho license within six (6) months from appointment. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be computer literate. Must have valid driver’s license with an insurable record. Must possess the ability to pass an extensive criminal background check. Tribal Preference applies.
